LEED Certified Buildings
In 2000, the U.S. Green Building Council established the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification system. The platinum LEED rating has been awarded to buildings which have reduced their energy dependence by use of green principles; two examples include access to mass transit and use of recycled materials in construction. In the United States, only 41% of office buildings are LEED certified at the platinum level.
